El Palmar & Surroundings

elpalmar1 elpalmar2 elpalmar3 elpalmar4

Our La Luz Surfcamp is located in El Palmar (Andalucia). It´s the southernmost region of Spain, the Moroccan coast lies within eyeshot. The area is called Costa de la Luz (“Coast of Light "), on good days (and there are many!) the light conditions here are incredible!

The region around El Palmar has much to offer and is rich in history and culture.  It is famous for its proximity to Africa, the Moorish heritage and its white villages.  Here Columbus started his travels to discover the “new world” and the first Spanish constitution was written. Cadiz is said to be the oldest city in Europe, Jerez is the birthplace of sherry, Seville the hotbed of flamenco and Tarifa is the closest European point to the African continent. All these cities are only 30-90 minutes away from La Luz Surfcamp.

El Palmar is a quiet and comfortable village directly on miles of pristine sandy beach. Within walking distance lies the famous Cape Trafalgar with its lighthouse. Here in 1805 the Spanish Armada was defeated by the English fleet under Admiral Nelson.
Right next to El Palmar you find the picturesque fishing village of Conil de la Frontera with its typical old town center. 10 km away, high above a gorge lies Vejer de la Frontera.  It is said that this “lookout to the sea” is the most Arab embossed and most beautiful white village of Andalusia.

If you like natural and unspoiled beaches and enjoy a mixture between sports and relaxation then you are exactly right here. For occasional trips into the Spanish nightlife the best option is Conil, especially on the weekends the locals really know how to party.
